Well with her running we have been able to rent some workshop space to do the welding.

I have hired my mate Sy as the welder and things are now well under way.

As you can see from the pictures, the front cross member, valance and both spring hangers had completely rotted and when the cutting discs came out they just turned to dust.

I had guessed this would happen so had managed to source a new old stock part spring hanger from Germany at www.oldcars.de before we started and using this as a template Sy made new spring hangers from 3mm steel plate to ensure they would never collapse again and seam sealed everything.

The cross member was very hard to find as a replacement panel so we just used some box section from the local metal merchant as a replacement.

As it was Christmas soon we knew that she would have to live outside and with the wings cut off everything would be open to the elements, so I bought a tin of seam sealer, some Acid Etch #8 primer and cheap gloss black paint, all bare metal was seam sealed and then sprayed with both primer and paint for added protection.

I then realised I would need the new wings very soon so contacted www.smithanddeakin.co.uk and ordered some fibreglass replacements that should arrive before Christmas.
Sy is starting on the driver and passenger side inner wings, door posts and steps this week, the driver’s side should be done before Christmas and the passenger in the week before new year all ready to take the new wings in January.
